A very speedy climber

When she was 15 years old, Ava Hamilton started competing in speed climbing. This is a sport that involves climbing up a 15-metre wall as quickly as possible. Each wall has 20 hand holds and 11 foot holds. Now 17, Hamilton is the fastest woman speed climber in the UK. At the European Championships this year, she scaled a wall in just 8.64 seconds. Now her goal is to secure a spot in Team GB for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. She told BBC News Scotland that the sport requires problem-solving. “You have to work out what’s best for you and if you’re strong enough to do certain moves,” she said.…
