Pygmy hippopotamus

This week a baby pygmy hippo called Toni made her first public appearance at Berlin Zoo in Germany, after being born in June. There are fewer than 3,000 pygmy hippopotamuses in the wild. Little is known about their lives because they are nocturnal (active at night). • LIFESPAN: 30–55 years in captivity, less in the wild.• HABITAT: The forests and swamps of West Africa.• SIZE: Up to 100 centimetres tall and 275 kilograms.• DIET: Grasses, ferns, fruits and plants.• FUN FACT: Pygmy hippos look greasy because their skin produces a shiny fluid that protects it.…
