Connie Chiume 1952–2024

The teacher who became a film star and helped young performers.

Connie Chiume was born in Welkom, South Africa. Although she ended up being an actress, Chiume first trained as a nurse and then went on to graduate with a degree in teaching. Her acting career began in 1977 when she moved to Greece to star in a musical show. Chiume went on to star in lots of TV shows and films, winning many awards, including a South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA). In 2018, she played the role of Zawavari in the Marvel film Black Panther.
