Should schools ditch uniforms?

Some people say they are unnecessary and expensive.

Many pupils will be going back to school this September, which means wearing uniforms again too. These can vary from blazers and ties to more casual sweatshirts, and schools may have strict or relaxed rules around how they are worn. School uniforms were first worn in charity schools in England. Christ’s Hospital school in West Sussex, England, claims to have the oldest school uniform that still exists. The school, founded in 1552, began the tradition because it took poor children and gave them clothes to wear. Today, uniforms can be a big expense. The Children’s Society charity found that families spent an average of £287 on primary and £422 a year on secondary school uniforms last year. What do you think? Should schools ditch uniforms?
