Pipistrelle bats are Britain’s smallest species of bat. They are up to five centimetres long and they weigh less than nine grammes. ● LIFESPAN IN THE WILD: 4–5 years. ● HABITAT: Pipistrelle bats most commonly roost in trees and hibernate in the crevices of buildings, as well as in special bat boxes. ● DIET: These small mammals catch their prey while flying. They eat insects such as midges and moths. ● FUN FACT: A pipistrelle bat can feed on up to 3,000 insects in just one night.
