Pebble or sand beaches? Pebble beaches are more interesting. I love searching for fossils and hag stones, finding flat pebbles to skim or hurling big rocks into the sea with a satisfying splosh. The sound of waves rushing up a pebble beach and chattering back is the best. Favourite ocean memory? Visiting a black sand beach in Iceland. It was cold, grey and windy. Dark waves were crashing up onto the beach so fiercely we were told not to turn our backs to the sea. Craggy spires of rock were rising from the mist a little off shore. It felt like the edge of the world. What sea creatures scare you? Animals like crocodiles and sharks inspire a deep, visceral fear inside me, but I also recognise that those animals…
