Zoo’s new banana boots

Zookeepers in Scotland have come up with a way to reuse old banana peels: turn them into boots. Keepers at Edinburgh Zoo clear up hundreds of leftover banana skins after each feeding time, so they worked with a local manufacturer to find ways to recycle the banana-skin fibres. Banana fibre is a strong, sustainable material that is already used to make clothing, bags and even furniture. Visitors say they like the boots and the strange-looking footwear also seems to encourage some of the more shy animals to join in at feeding time.
