Svalbard Global Seed Vault was created to store seeds from food plants around the world, in case there is a global crisis. It contains more than 1.3 million types of seeds and has space for millions more. It was built in Svalbard, a group of Norwegian islands in the Arctic Ocean, because the cold temperatures will help to preserve the seeds if the power shuts down.
