Why do snails move slowly?

Why do snails move slowly?
Snails are in a group of animals known as gastropods. “Gastro” means stomach and “pod” means foot – these animals are just a stomach on a foot. They move slowly because they have one big foot but no legs to power them. They eat plants so they don’t have to be quick hunters, and carrying a big shell on their backs slows them down. The shell protects them from predators so they don’t need to run away either. Enjoy unlimited visits to ZSL London and Whipsnade Zoos, plus a host of other benefits with ZSL Membership.
