A teenage grandmaster

On 4 August, Shreyas Royal became the youngest British chess grandmaster. Apart from World Champion, this is the highest title in chess and only goes to the very best players. The 15-year-old earned the title at the British Chess Championships in Hull, England. In 2018, his family thought they’d have to leave the UK because his father’s visa had expired. A visa is a document you need to live or work in a country. Senior politician Sajid Javid gave the family special permission to stay, because of Shreyas’s skills. Last year, Shreyas played chess with Rishi Sunak, who was Prime Minister at the time.…
