Alaotran gentle lemur

Curraghs Wildlife Park on the Isle of Man has welcomed two Alaotran gentle lemurs as part of a breeding programme. Brothers Bam and Bacca will be paired with females to try and breed baby lemurs. Experts think there are fewer than 2,500 of the creatures left in the wild, all living on the island of Madagascar. • LIFESPAN: Up to about 23 years.• HABITAT: They are the only primate to live only in wetlands, around Lake Alaotra in Madagascar.• SIZE: Around 80 centimetres long, including their tail.• DIET: Papyrus reeds and grasses.• FUN FACT: They use their hands and front teeth to pick fleas and other parasites out of the fur of their family members, helping to keep them healthy.…
