Sperm whales’ poo protection

Scientists have spotted a group of sperm whales using their own poo to defend themselves. The whales were being chased by a group of orcas off the coast of Australia. Sperm whales aren’t often chased by orcas because the sperm whales are much bigger. However, on this day a group of at least 30 orcas attacked a smaller group of sperm whales. Sperm whales are usually deep-sea hunters that can dive to depths of almost two miles, but here they were poking their heads out of the water more often than usual, showing they were tired. The scientists, who were on a boat, saw the whales put their heads together in a circle, which is called a “rosette” and is a way of defending themselves with their huge tails. When…
