Australia’s lost and found

The Gould’s mouse was thought to have been extinct for 125 years but scientists recently found it had survived on an Australian island. At first, it was wrongly thought to be a different type of creature called the Shark Bay mouse. Another species that has survived is the eastern barred bandicoot, which was declared extinct in the wild in 2013. Zookeepers managed to breed some in captivity and gradually released them back into the wild. Dogs were even trained to protect the bandicoots from foxes at a nature reserve.…
