Young rescuer on the hills

Seventeen-year-old Matthew Knapman has become one of Scotland’s youngest mountain rescuers. He was inspired to volunteer at Assynt Mountain Rescue Team after he was in a mountain bike accident in 2022 and had to be rescued himself. He told the BBC, “It really inspired me to find out what mountain rescue does – and how I can help them.” Knapman is in his probation period (a trial time when you are assessed to see if you can do a job) and if he passes he will become a full (official) member, joining his father, Paul, who is already on the team.…
