Contact lenses are thin, curved plastic lenses placed directly onto the surface of the eye to correct the vision of people who are short- or long-sighted. Wearing contact lenses can make users sensitive to bright lights, which can be annoying when heading outside on a sunny day. Contact-lens manufacturer Acuvue claims to have solved this problem, developing contact lenses that automatically darken when exposed to bright environments. The new lenses, which contain “Transitions Light Intelligent Technology”, are made with a substance that reacts to ultraviolet rays – a type of light found in sunlight.
