Senegal’s tortoise king

In Senegal, a country in west Africa, Tomas Diagne is working hard to protect tortoises and turtles. It’s been his passion for the past 30 years. The animals are at risk from hunting and because their habitats are under threat. Diagne, who is known as the “tortoise king”, first started looking after them as a hobby, but he later set up his own conservation organisation. In 2009, he started the African Chelonian Institute (ACI), which works to protect turtles and tortoises. He told iNews, “You cannot protect something you don’t like or don’t know, so we need to shine the spotlight on them.”…
