Should the UK get rid of royalty?

Some people think it is time the UK had more modern leadership.

England and the UK have had monarchies for more than 1,000 years. Scotland (which was a separate country until 1707) also had its own monarchy. A recent poll showed that more than a third of people in the UK – particularly those aged 18 to 24 – feel negatively about the system. Anti-royalists want to hold a referendum that would let the public vote on whether to keep the monarchy or not. The monarchy is hereditary (it passes from generation to generation) and many people think it is unfair that the royal family is wealthy and privileged by birth.
