Protests against Israel’s prime minister

Huge protests and strikes (when people refuse to work) have broken out in Israel after the prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, sacked his defence minister. He did this after the defence minister, Yoav Gallant, spoke out against unpopular plans that Netanyahu was hoping to introduce. Netanyahu has now decided to delay his plans. What changes does Netanyahu want? The plans would affect the Israeli Supreme Court. This is the highest court in Israel and it makes important decisions on laws being passed by the government. The changes would allow the government to have more control over who is chosen to be a member of the court. They would also limit the court’s power to stop certain laws from being passed.
