For almost 80 years, Marvel has been capturing the imagination of young people and adults with their spectacular superheroes and evil villains. Since its first comic book was published in 1939, Marvel has gone on to produce films, games, TV shows and even theme-park rides that bring its universe to life. Now it is one of the biggest superhero brands in the world. A heroic history Marvel’s history dates back to 1939, when publisher Martin Goodman created Timely Comics. Timely’s first comic release was called Marvel Comics no.1 and was published in October of the same year. The 1940s are often called a golden age of comic books and Timely introduced lots of superheroes, including Captain America.
