Should everyone learn a second language?

Some people say that learning more than one is a waste of time.

In a world of air travel and international business, being able to talk to people from other countries is important. In the UK, many schoolchildren learn a second language at primary school and for at least a few years at secondary school – it could be Chinese, French, Spanish or something else. This isn’t just good for talking to people from different countries and making new friends; scientists have observed that learning a new language can boost our brain power, too. Learning a new language has also been shown to improve memory, the ability to multitask, and decision making. Yet researchers say that English is currently the third most widely spoken language in the world – with 1.5 billion speakers – so is there any point in learning another one?…
