Put away the diagrams of magic bullets and grassy knolls, said John Hanna and Jamie Stengle in the Associated Press. The National Archives last week published some 80,000 pages of classified government files on President John F. Kennedy’s 1963 assassination, and nothing in the document dump undercuts the Warren Commission’s conclusion “that Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone gunman.” There’s still plenty to interest Cold War historians. A 1961 memo reveals that the CIA controlled 47 percent of political officers at U.S. embassies; another details how the agency “downplayed what it knew” about Oswald’s pre-assassination visit to Mexico City, where he met with a KGB officer. But conspiracy theorists will be disappointed at the absence of evidence proving the unstable Marine veteran was acting on CIA, Kremlin, or mob orders…
