What could be more lovely than walking a countryside trail, created around a series of lakes and streams, discovering works of art? At Sculpture by the Lakes - a 26-acre park created by artist Simon Gudgeon - that’s exactly what you do. And ever since I first heard of it, I’ve been keen to visit, camera in hand. Our base was nearby Poundbury, an extension to the historic county town of Dorchester and the brainchild of the Duchy of Cornwall, led by King Charles. From here, we’d explore Dorset’s countryside, independent shops, and beautiful villages - and there was always the chance we might bump into a visiting royal… Where we stayed Poundbury’s houses are built in a variety of architectural styles, to make it look like the town has always been…
