“Footwork!” My old PE teacher’s voice rings in my ears as I catch the ball, pivot and clean forget which foot comes next. It’s over 25 years since I last stepped on a court and I’m joining the Grimsby & District Senior Netball League (grimsbynetball.com) at one of its weekly open sessions. Frantically, I seek out the friendly yells and yellow bibs of my new team-mates. My pulse is racing and I feel a little like a woman possessed as I dodge, weave and even shriek for the ball, my face growing redder than a plum tomato. After each 10-minute match we break for fresh orange slices, swap bibs and play again. Despite feeling queasy as the final whistle blows, I realise that a kind of mindful, yet giddy elation…
