As well as being significant in the Christian calendar, the day is linked to traditions and folklore from years gone by. It once marked the end of the agricultural year, but now is more associated with the new school term, the last of the blackberries, fading summer warmth and an abundant harvest. Often overlooked, it’s an opportunity to acknowledge these moments before the days grow shorter and the hedgerows begin to lookbare.
