Our rule of thumb when selecting recipes for The Simple Things is that they have to be for slow food, not show food. The word ‘perfect’ has no place here. Yet Michael Zee’s beautiful and, yes, perfectly symmetrical breakfasts are hard to resist. And we are not alone; what began as an Instagram of his boyfriend’s breakfast now has more than 600,000 followers and led to his first cookbook. He’s no stranger to a kitchen; Michael’s great grandfather came from Shanghai and his father was a chef in his restaurants.
