A simple recipe but with an interesting twist

Homemade toffee apples Makes6 6 crisp eating (dessert) apples, such as Braeburn400g golden caster sugar100ml water1 tsp lemon juice4 tbsp golden syrup6 clean, sturdy twigs (or wooden skewers) 1 Fill a large bowl with boiling water, add the apples and leave for a minute or so. This removes any wax they may have on their skin and helps the caramel stick. Dry with a paper towel and remove the stalks. Push a twig or thick wooden skewer to about halfway into each apple. 2 Line a baking sheet with baking parchment. Put the sugar and water in a deep, heavy-based saucepan and bring to the boil.
