OK, so you can t give yourself psychotherapy but there are plenty of techniques you can harness from outdoor therapy that may help you to face up to difficult feelings and encourage you to think in a healthier way.
• If you need to have a difficult conversation, try suggesting a walk. It can be easier to open up when you’re alongside another person rather than facing them.
• Feeling anxious? Try a mindful stroll – when you have a range of sensory cues to tune into it can help to focus your mind. Each time you find yourself distracted by an anxious thought, pull your focus back to the natural world – tune into the sound of birds, or wind in the branches, or train your eyes on the forest floor.
