You’re undeniably a pretty excellent woman if you’re a gold medallist – and Liz Johnson has smashed that, winning gold in the 100m breaststroke at the 2008 Summer Paralympics, in addition to several World Championships. But what makes Liz truly excellent is her dedication to making our workplaces, and society generally, more inclusive, specifically in relation to disabilities. As she says, “disabled people shouldn’t need to be Paralympians to be accepted and celebrated. They should be seen as vital members of the UK’s workforce and recognised for their abilities, not their disabilities.”
Now retired from competitive swimming, Liz is co-founder of The Ability People (TAP) – a consultancy staffed entirely by disabled people. She was prompted to action after hearing of a 30% difference in employment rates between people with disabilities…
