THE CHATTER IN YOUR HEAD is one of the first things you’ll notice when you begin a silent retreat, along with the peculiar feeling of being with other people and not speaking to each other. A silent retreat tends to be a group activity led by experienced facilitators, and in fact, silence is not a demand. It’s an invitation. An invitation to be with oneself in an open and kind way. Most of us have tried meditation, right? But being in silence is something else – it’s just you, your thoughts, and the space between your thoughts.
