Cohort Hostel, St Ives, Cornwall If you thought your days of staying in hostels were over it could be time for a rethink. When husband and wife team Danny and Lee took over St Ives Backpackers and transformed it into the Cohort Hostel, their aim was to create smart, inexpensive (£19 per night) and flexible accommodation to suit the ever-growing number of visitors to their busy seaside town. There are spotless dorms (female-only or mixed) with custom-built wooden bunk beds and sunny yellow curtains for privacy. Three private rooms provide a good option for groups – one has a triple bunk, ideal for families. Communal areas are bright, sunny and spacious and there’s a convivial atmosphere as walkers, surfers, kids and couples mill around planning their day, washing down their wetsuits…
