In the autumn of 2012 a new magazine appeared on British newsstands. Called The Simple Things, it offered a suitably simple promise; ‘to celebrate the things that matter most’. I bought each one of those early issues, which offered a monthly reminder to ‘take time to live well’. Now, four years on, I co-own The Simple Things. As our readership has grown, people began to ask for our back issues and we started to sell out. Then we had an idea; ‘what if we collected the best of the magazine in an anthology?’ Choosing what to leave out was the hard part. I wanted to show that it doesn’t matter where you live or how busy you are, there are everyday opportunities to learn something new, do something well, be outdoors…
