We know the temptation to keep your paths clear with a quick squirt of weedkiller. So simple. So deadly. These chemical cocktails can harm the complex and wonderful ecosystems in your garden. And you certainly don’t want them near your herb patch. Instead, at Garden Organic, we recommend the following:
• Carefully target the weed with boiling water, or a sharp knife or trowel. Flame or thermal weeders are also effective, especially on young weeds.
• Organic weedkillers are usually based on pelargonic acid, which kills the foliage, but doesn’t penetrate the root so you do need to dig the roots out.
• Vinegar or bleach are not recommended. Some local councils use acetic acid (the basis of vinegar), which is a chemical compound, and therefore isn’t organic.
