Hard to imagine it now, but the polo neck experienced decades in the fashion wilderness. Derided as uncool, it was the jumper of the 70s mail-order model, accessorised with a pendant or cinched with a wide belt, or the Milk Tray man as he creepily broke into an unsuspecting girl’s bedroom with his box of chocs. But that was before fashion designers rediscovered it last year when they sent models down their catwalks encased from wrist to chin in snug and stylish versions.
It’s good to see this supremely warm and useful garment back in favour with those who deem things fashionable, and back on the high street for the rest of us to buy. It has history as a garment worn…
