PROUDLY HOMEMADE VENISON & BEEF PIE Welcome in winter with a homemade meat pie and a tableful of hungry friends Serves 4 3 tbsp sunflower or vegetable oil 800g venison, cut into large pieces 300g beef brisket, cut into large chunks 2 red onions, sliced 1 large carrot, halved lengthwise and cut into 10 to 12 pieces 1 x 120g piece thick-cut bacon, cut into 1.25cm cubes 1 clove garlic, crushed 1 bay leaf 1 tbsp redcurrant jelly 600ml good-quality red wine 340g puff pastry, ready-made or homemade 1 large egg, beaten 1 On a medium-high setting, heat half the oil in a casserole dish or large frying pan with a cover.
