Go the whole hog in helping this species make a comeback

Though they've been in decline for several years, there's hope the humble hedgehog is making a comeback. A survey published by BBC Gardeners’ World earlier this year reported that hedgehog sightings were up by 2%. A small change, granted, but finally one in the right direction. Hedgehog Awareness Week takes place 5–11 May, and the British Hedgehog Preservation Society is inviting people to make their gardens hedgehog friendly spaces, with leaf piles, wild corners and off ramps in ponds in case they fall in. Meanwhile, the People's Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) is also asking people to keep an eye on hedgehogs, as well as other creatures such as water voles and foxes, as part of its Living With Mammals surveys.
