Every year, 12 million girls around the world are married before they turn 18, often ending their access to education, placing them and their children at greater health risk, and curtailing their right to determine the course of their own lives.
But things are changing. At the start of this year, child marriage was finally banned in England and Wales, and campaigners are hopeful that it will be consigned to history the world over.
