THINGS TO NOTE AND NOTICE Local lore SHROVETIDE SKIPPING, SCARBOROUGH Forget pancake races; skipping is where it's at on Shrove Tuesday in Scarborough. A mile of Foreshore Road is closed off and when the Pancake Bell is rung, thousands of locals gather to skip over long ropes stretched across the road.
