Sometimes you have to jump in with your eyes shut. When I started Carrier Company, I thought it would last two, three years at most – a way of supporting my young family after moving to Norfolk from London. I’ve always invented jobs for myself. I thought I could sell my quilts and cushions to holidaymakers, as well as doing some gardening, as I’d been doing in London. One day, I saw some jute and wondered what I could make from it. I needed a carrier for my garden, so that’s what it became. It worked so well, I started selling them at local fairs.
