It’s the stuff of dreams – sequestered away in a treehouse refuge, with a bird’s eye view – and the clever constructions in Jane Field-Lewis’s book are dreamier than most. You could imagine living your life in most of the 33 houses featured here. They range from the ramshackle – cobbled together from timber off-cuts and a ladder made of sawn-up branches – to the regal, complete with queen-sized bed, a romantic terrace and a bathtub. There are architecturally adventurous structures, builds with a minimalist feel, a delightful Dartmoor Cocoon house, made with overlapping spruce ribs and, sweetest of all, the Bird Apartment, which looks like a birdhouse and has 78 bird boxes integrated into one of the walls.
