We told the kids we were going on an adventure, so they were puzzled when we took the usual footpath near our house. It was a sunny summer’s evening and the plan was to veer off the path just before sunset, wander across a couple of fields and set up a wild camp near a stream. My tweet, posted with this pic the next morning read: ‘Wild #camping with the family. Dawn. Bats, deer and a thunderstorm.
