June is perhaps the best month in the garden. As the days and evenings stretch towards the solstice, the plants bloom, their fresh greenery yet to be coated with the dust of late summer. There's time to enjoy the garden, too, whatever that means for you – a cup of tea on the back doorstep or balcony in the early morning, or lazing on the lawn with a good book during a long, midsummer evening. However, sunshine in the garden can be a conundrum worthy of Goldilocks: too much or too little, and plants fail to thrive.
