ROOTING FOR THE ANDES Community-led project is breathing new life into Andean forests The Andes is home to one-sixth of all plant life on the planet, and protecting it is no mean feat. But this is precisely what Acción Andina – a social movement to save the Andean forests – has been doing for the past 20 years. “It is time to be part of the solution and not only spectators in the global climate and nature crisis,” says indigenous Peruvian leader and the organisation's co-founder, Constantino Aucca. This community-led reforestation project has already engaged 25,000 people to restore nearly 5,000 hectares of Andean forests and protect more than 11,250 hectares of existing forests since 2018.
