Heading to the coast for the weekend in high summer can seem like a good idea until you realise half the country has had the same one. However, if you choose your destination carefully so you've plenty of coastline to pick from, but situate yourself a little way inland, you can have both your seaside fun and a quiet haven when you're ready to retreat. The Jurassic coast has miles of beaches to house its many visitors and the small town of Bridport, with its independent shops and restaurants in the old town and traditional seaside fun to be had at West Bay, is one of those places people visit and quickly start envisaging a future life spent living by the sea.
