FEELING FRUITY Everything is fruiting this month. The sweet gooseberry bush, which stoically produces several kilos of blush-pink berries every year without any fuss, or indeed, any attention, is reliable as clockwork and cropping heavily as I write. The little cherry tree, which I net against the pigeons as soon as the fruit sets in spring, isn't as prolific as it has been in previous years, but no matter, there's enough of a harvest to celebrate there, too. However, it isn't just the obvious fruits that are picking now. All plants that produce single buds of loveliness on a stem, tree or vine are in peak season right now.
