The prom. It's a measure of our deep affection for seaside promenades that we usually refer to them by this friendlier diminutive. But in doing so, we can perhaps forget just how truly wondrous they are. Their history dates back to the 18th century, but they continue to evolve to suit us today, changing from places to promenade into accessible routes, also popular with runners and cyclists. They're public spaces, with more than their fair share of art and music for everyone to enjoy.
