TALES TOLD WITHIN THE HEAT OF A SAUNA MAKE FOR A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE

Once upon a time in a wooded park there was a sauna called Frith (from the Old English for ‘peace, protection, safety, security, freedom and refuge’), where a storyteller named Fleur recounted traditional tales of witch hares and fairies to an audience of glowing faces. It might sound like folklore but storytelling in saunas is not make believe. A good story read aloud transports people to magical kingdoms of the mind, but when storytelling takes place in a sauna, the effect is enchanting. This visit to Stanmer Sauna Garden in Brighton takes place on a chilly wet day. Resident storyteller Fleur Shorthouse is reading from The Birth Of Taliesin, a traditional Welsh tale that she recounts with a mischievous sense of humour and array of props, including essential oil-infused water…
