A slow burn first love, a young man facing into his future and the melody-filled streets of south London make this an exemplary duvet day novel. The book is alive with music, a brilliantly evoked soundtrack, which accompanies the story of young Black trumpeter Stephen, who hangs out with his friends, goes dancing, beautifully falls for Del and battles with his family and their expectations.
