No matter your age, it’s hard to escape the dream of slinging on a backpack and leaping aboard a train to a foreign destination – or maybe it’s sitting in the train bar, chatting with your fellow travellers, like you’re on the Orient Express in an Agatha Christie novel (though hopefully with a bit less murder). Either way, interrailing feels like a fully fledged adventure. That’s what especially appealed to me and my partner Ellie, although our student days were behind us and to make things more interesting, we were also parents to Lara, our two-year-old daughter. Keen not to let life with a toddler derail the dream, we started making plans.
