Frame THE SEASONS

Gathered seed heads, frothy grasses and cut blooms alongside a wealth of curios and boot fair finds: Jeska Hearne’s ever-evolving botanical tableaux are full of inspiration

Each season, I create a little botanical tableau on a set of driftwood shelves overlooking our cottage garden. These two small shelves frame the seasons, delivering a dose of botanical magic come rain or shine. Papery hellebores and delicate snowdrops; summer sweet peas in lip gloss shades; a happy harvest of grasses, puffy nigella seed heads and poppies providing a sea of warm, rippling gold to see me through to spring. The shelves are just out of our back door, in a south facing lean-to we built as a temporary extension to our kitchen. Keeping the arrangements undercover but outdoors means they are safe from our two cats leaping around and they last a bit longer than they do in the house on all but the hottest of summer days.
