We asked our readers back in autumn for your heartfelt nominations of businesses, charities, organisations or community groups in your neighbourhood that made you feel good about the world. And it turned out that quite a few of you wanted, as we did, to recognise those who have helped our neighbourhoods not merely to survive but thrive in these trying times. We received almost 100 nominations, all of which have gone the extra mile, so choosing ‘our favourite of your favourites’ took a while.
The nominations were nationwide (with Scotland particularly well-represented): some were successful schemes in well-heeled communities, others a lifeline in poorer areas; there were big city projects and tiny village initiatives; from the hyper local to working across whole districts.
